In our small town of Lewistown IL people travel far and wide for the annual Spoon River Scenic Drive. It is a unique event with all types of vendors in several locations across the Spoon River valley. They come for the food, Amish goods, handmade crafts and decor, holiday gift shopping and the breathtaking scenery. Growing up Joe and his dad used to sell various things together on the drive. One of those things was double-handled hot dog sticks.
Fast forward to 2012; Joe had to have back surgery. He could not work or lift more than 8lbs. As he began feeling better, he cleaned up the garage and came across miscellaneous parts and pieces he had kept around over the years. Being a welder he thought he would make a few little sculptures out of the scrap metal. Scenic Drive was going to be held soon so he decided to try his luck selling the sculptures. While he was at it, he made some hot dog sticks to see how it went. People loved both the sticks and the sculptures and we have never stopped making either since.
The Spoon River Scenic Drive still happens every year the first 2 weekends in October; rain or shine. We are always set-up in Bernadotte IL. In 2023 it will be 51 years running. Now we travel with our two children to art shows and have been working hard to build our hot dog stick empire. Joe is a Union Millwright by trade and during his time off works on art and stick fabrication. Jessica (that's me!) helps with finishing the art, assembling the sticks and running the online presence.
Our family truly appreciates you taking the time read this and learn a little about how it all began. The plan for the future is to keep being "makers" and without your support none of this is possible. We are a small family owned and operated business and are grateful to each supporter of our endeavors.
We thank you!
